Mogalakwena reduces operational cost

Anglo American Platinum’s Mogalakwena Complex near Mokopane in Limpopo province is not only the world’s largest open-pit platinum mine, but has one of the lowest operating costs as well. The mine’s success is due in part to its long-standing relationship with Passport 360, which it adopted in June 2015 to streamline its onboarding process.

The Mogalakwena Complex is hence a flagship asset for Anglo American Platinum. Over the years it has implemented a number of business-improvement initiatives to raise productivity and reduce costs further, thereby maximising the value delivered versus the capital expenditure.

“We have been deploying the Passport 360 solution for all of our onboarding requirements for about four years to date. It was our first-choice solution due to the efficiency it has allowed us to leverage. It allows contractors as far afield as Johannesburg to upload their competencies and medical certificates remotely, without having to travel to and from the mine itself,” according to Yolande Koekemoer, Contractor Management Coordinator, Mogalakwena Complex, Anglo American Platinum.

Passport 360 is a cloud-based platform to enhance performance in procurement and onboarding times. It allows for improved visibility with regard to compliance, time and safety, and risk management, resulting in increased productivity. This results in a safer and more productive workplace.

In addition, simplified and accessible systems results in greater participation from all stakeholders. The main aim of Passport 360 is to improve overall organisational efficiency from the moment the first contractor is engaged, all the way to the end of the project lifecycle.

“Our solution ensures transparency, productivity, and efficiency within the procurement and onboarding process. We aim to change and improve processes by applying technology that results in better and more sustainable outcomes for all our clients and stakeholders,” Siobhan Whitehead, Director and Co-Founder of Passport 360, explains.

Passport 360 is a pioneer in creating a health and safety platform that allows organisations to optimise their administration, health and safety, procurement, and compliance requirements in an integrated online environment. Clients include leading Blue Chip companies such as WBHO, Concor, Anglo American, De Beers, and Thyssenkrupp.

“We have a very one-on-relationship with the team at Passport 360. The team is always on the ball, and willing to carry out any level of customisation we need specific to our own operational requirements. Thus the service support has been exemplary, and this has made the entire solution so much more user-friendly and effective,” Koekemoer concludes.
